One sensor gives you one data point — but soil moisture varies significantly across a field. Soil type changes, irrigation distribution is uneven, elevation shifts, and drainage differs corner to corner. Ten sensors give you a map. You see the dry corner, the pond at the bottom of a slope, the middle section that drains fast. You irrigate based on what the whole field actually needs.

No. Sensors are fully buried below the surface — nothing protrudes above ground. Tractors, pivots, and most other equipment pass right over them. That's the core design principle: once installed, you forget they're there.

The sensors communicate via long-range LoRa radio — not cellular and not Wi-Fi. LoRa is designed for exactly this: low-power wireless transmission across open agricultural land at far distances. Only the gateway requires cellular coverage, and it can be placed at the field edge, a barn, or anywhere with a signal.

Sensor nodes use the same battery chemistry used in industrial sensors designed for long-term underground deployment. We're targeting 3+ years of field life at our standard transmission interval. You won't be digging anything up to swap batteries every season.
